After his wife Ge Mingzhi learned of her husband’s sacrifice, she lived alone with her adopted son Xia Tingyue in the countryside for more than 70 years and practiced this promise with her whole life. Xia Hongyan, born in August 1921, was born in Sunguo Village, Liuji Town, Dong ‘e County. He joined the army less than half a year after his marriage. He disappeared in the Huaihai Campaign in 1948 and was chased as a martyr in 1957.
